Having grown up with the Ashton version of Prokofiev’s great ballet, this was never a piece on my radar. Chris Barron, my CEO at the time, said it would be a good title for BRB to have and urged me to consider it, and so I reviewed as many versions as possible and asked myself if I had something different to say. One reviewer described the ballet as ‘… more human than fairy tale,’ and the plight of poor, orphaned and abused Cinderella, and her search for love is certainly the focus of my production.

The production is also in the repertoire of the Ballet de L’Opéra National de Bordeaux and, in a new design, the Finnish National Ballet.
